Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has announced that his command apprehended over 120 individuals suspected of vandalism and theft of public facilities in the past nine months.
He made this statement during the Passing Out Parade of 135 personnel who completed the Batch A Basic Arms Training Course in Abuja on Tuesday.
Dr. Odumosu noted that the newly trained personnel, equipped in weapon handling, will bolster efforts against vandalism and other criminal activities in the territory. “The personnel who have undergone rigorous training in accordance with global best practices are ready to engage in the fight against crime,” he stated.
He reassured the public, saying, “We are committed to eliminating miscreants within the capital city. The command has arrested over 120 persons suspected of vandalism and theft of public facilities in the FCT over the past nine months.”
The Commandant urged the personnel to adhere to the rules of engagement and maintain professionalism while handling their weapons.
Earlier, the Director of Security for the FCT, who represented the Minister, Ahmad Buba-Gwary, emphasised the importance of deploying the trained personnel to protect the Abuja light rail lines and streetlights from ongoing vandalism.
He reaffirmed the FCT administration’s commitment to providing the necessary tools for NSCDC to effectively carry out its responsibilities.
