FCMB digital platforms break down, cripple online transactions

The digital platforms of the First City Monument Bank (FCMB) on Monday broke down as many customers who wanted to perform online transactions couldn’t do so as at the time of filing in this report.

Speaking with journalists, some of the bank customers lamented difficulty in performing online banking via the various digital platforms of the bank.

“The network is down. Don’t know why on a Monday morning. Heard there was an attempted hacking of the bank’s network by suspected fraudsters, but can’t confirm that,” a visibly angry customer told journalists on Monday in Lagos.

Confirming the breakdown of its digital platforms, FCMB in a statement to customers explained that the breakdown is as a result of an ongoing technical enhancement.

“We are aware that you may have experienced service unavailability on our digital platforms this morning.

“This is a result of an ongoing technical enhancement which we are putting in place to ensure you enjoy seamless transactions without interruptions in the long term. You may experience intermittent challenges accessing these channels for a few hours, which our technology team is working hard to resolve.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and will update you as soon as our platforms become available for your use. Thank you for choosing FCMB,” the bank explained in the statement.
