FCCPC ready to defend consumers’ rights–Zonal Coordinator

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has reiterated its stance in protecting and defending the rights of consumers when such rights are infringed upon.

The Zonal Coordinator of FCCPC, South South,Alh Garba Ahmad stated this in an exclusive interview with Nigerian NewsDirect in Port Harcourt.

The Zonal Coordinator stressed that FCCPC was solely established by the Federal Governnment to protect and defend the consumers who must have suffered in one way or the other from the hands of shirlock manufacturers and could not get value for their money.

Ahmad said such consumers should not hesitate to approach the FCCPC with their complaints for redress instead of dying in silence, assuring that FCCPC is capable and ready to handle such issues to the satisfaction of all parties involved.

“Consumers should know that FCCPC was established for their sake.

They should not stay and die in silence,as FCCPC is ready to protect their rights as consumers. Consumers should not hesitate to report to FCCPC where they don’t get value for their money or where their rights have been infringed upon,”the Zonal Coordinator said.

Asked the level of complaints his zone has received in recent times and the most culpable sector. Ahmad said the response from consumers in bringing up issues to the Commission has been impressive.

He identified the Electricity subsector,as well as private schools as most culpable.

The Zonal Coordinator said the South South Zone of FCCPC under his watch has been able to handle the issues reported to them and amicably settled them between the feuding parties, without anyone being referred to their Headquarters for prosecution.

He commended the stakeholders and the media for assisting the Commission to sensitize and enlighten the public on their rights, which he said has paid off.

Ahmad who said that challenges are natural, identified lack of human and material resources as some of the major challenges facing the Zone.

The Zonal Coordinator used the opportunity to appeal to consumers to use their email:[email protected] or phone number:08147170732 to send their complaints, where they cannot come physically.
