Farmer/Herder crisis: SGF urges Alia to take advantage of security architecture at his disposal

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume has urged Governor Hyacinth Alia to make use of the security architecture available to him to tackle the farmer-herders crisis in the state.

Speaking during the burial of former All Progressives Congress, APC, Woman Leader, late Mrs. Msoo Tar in Ushongo Local Government Area, LGA, of the state, the SGF said, “President Tinubu has great love for Benue State and that is why he is drawing Benue people closer to power.”

Represented by the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, Pius Akutah, the SGF noted that the distribution of fertilizers to Benue farmers during the last farming season was another show of love and concern by President Tinubu for Benue people.

The representative of the SGF reassured Benue youths and women of Senator Akume’s readiness to carry them along saying he has made the upliftment of youths and women in the society his priority “because they are the people who have been the pillar behind his political success since 1999.”

On the attacks in the state, the SGF said “President Tinubu has deployed enough security personnel to stop the killings in the state and is urging the Governor of Benue State to make use of the security architecture available to end the killings in the state.”

Governor Hyacinth Alia, represented by the Commissioner for Sports, Terkimbi Ikyange condoled with the family of the deceased.

The Governor assured that his government was working round the clock and taking necessary steps to end insecurity in the state.

Also, the Executive Director, Housing, Finance and Accounts, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Dr. Mathias Byuan said the Federal Government had made more than enough funds and palliatives available to states for Governors to use in tackling hunger and insecurity.

Dr. Byuan who condoled the family of the deceased also reaffirmed President Tinubu’s resolve to appoint more Benue sons and daughters in his administration.

The Benue State Chairman of APC, Austin Agada urged the people of the state to remain resolute and keep faith with the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of the President Tinubu-led administration.

He said the APC in the State appreciated the pivotal role played by the former Women Leader in helping the party win the 2023 elections in the area assuring that the party would ensure the welfare of those she left behind.

The occasion was attended by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Coastal Tourism and Recreation, Ademola Ade-John, members of the APC, party stakeholders and associates.

Recall Tinubu, has called on the governors in the country to provide land for herders to graze on.

Tinubu noted that the frequent clashes between Herders and farmers would be a thing of the past.
