Fans of Wizkid, Burna Boy in Enugu celebrate the duo over Grammy Awards
Music lovers and fans of Ayodeji Balogun a.k.a Wizkid and Damini Ogulu a.k.a Burna Boy in Enugu on Monday celebrate the duo over their victory at Grammy Award.
The two Nigerian Afrobeat stars both won different awards at the 2021 Grammy’s Award Tuesday night.
Burna Boy won the Best Global Music Album category while Wizkid won the Best Music Video for his song with Beyoncé; Brown Skin Girl, from Lion King: The Gift album.
Some of the fans who spoke with newsmen described the win as ‘deserving’.
Chinedu Agbo said that the duo were talented musicians globally as they thrilled the world with their tune and lyrics.
“It is a deserving award as both artistes are global icon especially Wizkid’s collaboration with Beyonce, it was superb.
“I am so excited that they won and made Nigeria proud,” he said.
A fan, Matthias Emeka, said the award was for Nigeria and Africa in general.
“This is an encouragement for African artistes towards hardworking and dedication,” Emeka said.
A student, Ngozi Obi, expressed happiness over Burna Boy saying ” his award is a plus for Nigeria and I am happy for him. He has put Nigeria in a map and I am so excited.
“He has been a nominee for a while but God just remembered him,” she added.
Burna Boy, had been a nominee for second consecutive years and finally won with his ‘Twice As Tall album’.
The 63rd Grammy Awards was held in Los Angeles and it had traditionally billed as “music’s biggest night”.
This year’s ceremony is different because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The audience and performers were separated into five stages, arranged in a circle inside the Los Angeles Convention Center to maintain social distancing.
