Family raises alarm over threat messages, lodges complaints

The family of Akerele has raised alarm over threat messages from suspected IPOB members, following the continuous extortions.

It would be recalled that the head of the family, Akerele Olalekan Daniel,  was abducted by the IPOB dreaded gang and paid ransom in 2019 while coming from Owerri, Imo State.

Our reporter gathered that motorists plying the Sagamu-Benin-Ore expressway for several years, have cried out over the high rate of kidnapping by the IPOB, appealing for the Federal Government’s intervention

While lodging complaints at the police station, Mrs Akerele Kehinde Omotayo said she has been receiving threat messages, threatening to kidnap her and the children, if she didn’t send money.

She disclosed that the threat messages sent to her have become unbearable for her, calling security operatives to be more proactive.

According to her, the messages were from those gangs who abducted and collected ransom from her husband close to five years ago.

Mrs Akerele said many of such cases have been reported to the police, while others were not reported for fear of the unknown.

Our reporter reports that the family, including children, are now in hiding, fearing for their lives while desperately trying to ensure their safety

She said that the fear of the unknown has forced her to go into hiding with the children, lamenting that they are in emotional and psychological distress.

She noted that the family fears that the kidnappers will make good on their threats to abduct them, if she didn’t send money to them.

She said, “I’m still living in fear, but our priority is safety. We are cooperating with the security operatives, so I lodged a complaint at the police station. I have begged the person sending messages to have mercy. I can’t sleep, I can’t eat. I am so worried about my husband, and now I am afraid they’ll come for us again.

”I just want my family to be in peace and love happily together.”

The police, through the officer in charge through Criminal Investigation Department, assured of thorough investigation into the matter.
