Family planning: Pathfinder International trains journalists on quality reportage

…Calls for improved FG’s involvement, funding

Pathfinder International, a Non-governmental Organisation has commenced training of journalists on effective family planning reportage.

This is coming as Pathfinder, health communications experts called on the Federal Government to prioritise funding, active involvement in family planning across the country.

In her remarks during the 3-day training for media professionals, Senior Program Advisor, Reproductive Health and Family Planning, Pathfinder International, Dr. Sakina Bello, said Media advocates play a key component in family planning advocacy.

She said, “We believe you will use your various platforms, across states to keep talking about family planning issues beyond the Advance Family Planning project.”

Meanwhile, the communications officer of Pathfinder International in his remarks tasked federal government to walk the talk on family planning funding in a bid to achieve maximum success.

He stated that Pathfinder will not relent in championing the cause of family planning in Nigeria.

Similarly, in her presentation, Pathfinder Programme Officer, Hauwa Usman emphasised on the step-by-step approach of achieving New Advanced Family Planning SMART advocacy.

She called on all and sundry to key into attaining objectives of Advanced Family Planning in Nigeria.

Media practitioners who doubled as resource persons, Seyi Bolaji, Wika Gofwen and Chima Azubuike also took their turns to enlighten participants on media advocacy, tips on reporting family planning and Nigeria’s situation of planning.

The event is scheduled to continue till Friday 25th of February, 2022.
