FAAN to curb touting with on-site courts at airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced plans to set up magistrate courts at airports across the country. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to combat touting and ensure immediate judgment for airport rule violations.

FAAN Managing Director/Chief Executive Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku revealed this during a meeting in Abuja on Friday with FAAN management and security agency heads at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The meeting aimed to update stakeholders on recent airport developments, share the management’s strategic goals, and discuss improving passenger experience and operations.

Kuku highlighted the issues caused by touts and loiterers, stating that these individuals, who have no legitimate business at the airport, disrupt operations and affect the comfort of genuine travelers. She announced that an anti-touting taskforce would start prosecuting individuals engaged in such illicit activities on-site.

Additionally, Kuku addressed concerns about car hire operators violating procedures and warned that such actions would no longer be tolerated. She also emphasized the need to modernize baggage screening processes at the international terminal. FAAN plans to implement a system where baggage will be screened by machines, allowing security officials to view contents in real-time and only pull aside items needing secondary checks.

“We must streamline our efforts and improve airport processes,” Kuku said. “This is the 21st century, and we must keep up with the times.”
