Experts charge school girls on future security

No fewer than 210 pupils from three Girls schools on Wednesday in Ibadan and its environs benefited from the leadership scheme, a pet project of Women in Business (Wimbiz) big sister program

During the exercise, the Chairperson, Board of the trustee, Mrs. Funmi Roberts said that the exercise was aimed to empower young girls from the ages of 14 to 18years to boost their confidence and build their leadership capacity

The school that participated in programme included: Peoples Girls Grammar School, Molete Ibadan, Yejide Girls Grammar School, Molete, Ibadan and St. Annes schools, Ibadan.

According to her, Wimbiz will randomly select students across the six states in the country including: Lagos, Oyo, Mina, Niger and Port Harcourt for the training

Roberts said the desire to change lives and positively impact in young girls lives by accomplished professional in various field, who are committed to the development of the younger generation is of grave concern to the organisation

She also said that WIMBIZ has build on the past successes with the intent of creating much impact in public secondary school girls in Oyo state

Roberts who described her organisation as the programme focused non-governmental organization in Nigeria, emphasised that it target is to elevate and influence women in their contributions to building the nation

 “Over 15years, we have driven execution of our vision by empowering and inspiring women through our various programs including our annual conference which has attracted over 1,000 women in attendance and drawn credible speakers across sectors from all over the world. ” said

While also speaking with journalists during the exercise, the Permanent Secretary, Oyo state Ministry of Education, Mrs Ronke Makanjuola commending the initiative, described the program as “good one to sensitize the students in order not to fall victims of circumstances”

Makanjuola said the state government is collaborating with WIMBIZ to bring the female students to show the needed commitment to their education urging them to dream higher in order to achieve greatness in their endeavors.

“Let your dream be high so that you can become greater achiever in the future”, she urged the students

While addressing the students, wife of Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Oyo state governor, Mrs Bisi Yomi Layinka urged the  student to set their goal and aim higher to achieve anything in life.

Bisi-layinka said they should start preparing themselves for better future, and know how to take good care of their selves in terms of neatness

“Don’t blame anybody if are unable to set your goals, know your hygiene ‎and set your goals right”, she advised
