The dawn of the new year in Lagos was marked by the sound of newborns crying in the city’s general hospitals, as a series of births heralded the arrival of the first babies of 2025.

At the General Hospital, Ikorodu, Mr. and Mrs. Olaoluwa made history with the birth of their baby girl at exactly 12:34 am, becoming the first family to welcome a child in Lagos this year.

The second newborn of the year, delivered shortly after, was Gift Kchief, with Funke Aderinola’s child completing the top three arrivals.

Chief Medical Director of Ikorodu General Hospital, Dr. Olatunji Ajayi lauded the ongoing improvements in the hospital’s infrastructure and services, crediting the state government for its continued investment in healthcare.

“The facelift and the boost in our medical services are evident today as we celebrate the safe delivery of these precious lives,” he said.

She urged Lagos residents to register with the state’s Ilera-Eko Health Insurance Scheme, which continues to provide accessible healthcare services to families across the state.
