Ex-Lagos Speaker Ikuforiji acquitted of N338.8m money laundering charges

The Federal High Court in Lagos has discharged and acquitted former Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, and his former Personal Assistant, Oyebode Atoyebi, of alleged money laundering charges totaling N338.8 million.

Justice Liman’s ruling ended a decade-long legal battle, which began on March 1, 2012, with the defendants facing 20 counts of misappropriation and money laundering.

The court found that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
