Ex-Commissioner advocates Teachers’ empowerment for quality education over building of schools

Mrs Folashade Adefisayo has cited Teachers’ Empowerment as the major challenge needed to be addressed in the Nigerian Educational system.
Mrs Folashade pinpointed the pitfalls in the system as she examined Education quality in Nigeria while speaking to Newsdirect at the Lead and Mentor free National Career Development Workshop 1.0, themed- “Shaping Futures: Empowering minds for academic excellence and career success” which was held in Ikorodu, Lagos state on Saturday.
In her submission, Mrs Adefisayo enumerated the need to understand what quality Education is, “Beyond building schools, buying tables and chairs.”
The most important thing in education, she said, “is what transpires between Teachers and students, the quality of knowledge being passed to the students.”
However, the Ex-Commissioner during her lecture on the theme- “Shaping Futures: Empowering minds for academic excellence and career success” described her road to success from consistent daily reading from the end of the second week of each term. She noted that during her Masters, she was the oldest person in class, yet she had the best result because she studied daily.
Meanwhile, Convener of the Workshop, Engr Sheriff Lamidi explained the concept of the workshop which hosts professionals in different fields, including academia, to inspire students, to instill knowledge and make them become the real leader of tomorrow.
Furthermore, the Team Lead, Lead and Mentor Workshop, Olatayo Agogo expressed that the workshop derives its purpose from the theme, shaping the future of the youths, developing them and giving them the needed skills to thrive in today’s economy.
In his welcome address, a member of the Lead and Mentor team, Engr. Osho said that the program has provided a platform for educationists to be impacted. He emphasised the need to be guided in the lane of every respective career as he assured every participant of the values and high level of inspiration the platform provides.
