Ex-CDS, Irabor played significant role in fight against Boko Haram – Agbese

A federal lawmaker representing Ado/ Okpokwu/ Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, Benue State, in the House of Representatives Philip Agbese has said the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Lucky Irabor played a great role in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents.

Agbese spoke to newsmen in Abuja on Sunday while reacting to Irabor’s retirement from the Armed Forces of Nigeria which took place on Friday.

The lawmaker said Gen Irabor’s 30-month reign was “the best in the country’s recent history”, stressing that the former CDS left the military bigger, and better.

According to Agbese, Irabor showed extraordinary patriotism, commitment, and loyalty to his country by upholding the tenets of democracy at all times.

“Let me congratulate Gen Lucky Irabor for a successful 37 years of service to our dear nation Nigeria through the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“Irabor showcased unwavering dedication, resilience and strategic acumen in addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges. Notably, he played a significant role in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency and other security threats plaguing the country.

“Although Irabor is no longer in active service, he is still very much energetic and patriotic as always. His experience and expertise will remain valuable to the country”, he said.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu had on June 19, appointed Major General Christopher Gwabin to replace Irabor.
