EWIP engages members on back-to-school scheme, to tackle and provide basic education tools

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Evolving Women in Progress and Community Develpoment (EWIP), has kicked off its back to school scheme in Lagos, seeking to enhance the promotion of rights of the girl-child to education and empowerment.

The Organisation whose motto carries ‘United In Effort to Eradicate Illiteracy’ began with the aim of evolving women in politics, girl child protection programmes, as well educating women on their civil rights.

Speaking at the Opening of the event, EWIP’s coordinator, Lagos Chapter, Mrs. Olajumoke Saliu, spoke on the importance of rediscovering women’s identity around the globe from career, family, to finance.

She stated that the organisation stands as an advocacy against discrimination and illiteracy.

“Upon registration as Evolving Women in Progress and Community Development (EWIP), It broadened our scope to include all interventions such as – women empowerment activities, girl-child protection programmes, and advocacy against indiscrimination and all forms of violence against women,” she said.

Saliu also emphasized that over the years they had visited countless schools within the White Sand area of Ijora Badia, as they also offered basic amenities like bags, books and other writing materials to encourage the students.

“We visited a school within the White Sand area of ljora Badia, a typically disadvantaged Community, to give them school supplies like bags, books and writing materials,” she said.

“Upcoming in the last quarter of the year would be our hygiene outreach to teenage girls; walk against indiscrimination and all,” she said.

Present at the events were other reputable partners like the Charitable Network for Community Empowerment (CHANCE) and The Rewrite Nigeria Development Initiative (TRNDI).

“We collaborated with EWIP on this very laudable project, first because EWIP is a reputable body that shares our ideals and this very well fits within our scope. Secondly, all we saw was true need and we felt that impact would be greatly made in that community if embarked upon. We look forward to many more partnerships towards sustainable development” said the spokesperson for CHANCE”.

They both appaulded the organisers for such jasmine programme in delicate times as this.

The event which had members, supporters and partner, joined in the walk for a journey towards eradicating illiteracy, and also enlightening the masses on the essence of Education.

Also, the organisation over the years have dedicated time to Hygiene Outreach for teenage girls, walk against violence, fundraising events, leaving an indication that there is more to the future of the NGO than politics, and community development.
