Everspeed boss hosts Glory-Land CDA, bags honorary award from media
…as community leaders promise more development strategy
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Everspeed Group of Companies, Thomas Murphy ONYINYECHIC recently hosted community leaders of Glory-Land Community Development Association (CDA) in Iju-Atan, Ota, Ogun State.
The event also coincided with the presentation of an Award of Honour to Mr. Murphy ONYINYECHICVby the Publisher/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The COMMUNITY SEARCHLIGHT MAGAZINE to mark Everspeed’s impact on entrepreneurship development over the years.
Community leaders at the event pledged more developmental projects alongside youth engagement to ensure the progress of the community.
In separate interviews with, the community leaders called for more polling units in Glory-Land Community, adding that the creation of more polling units would boost participation in the electoral process in the community.
In a remark, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Everspeed Group of Companies, Thomas Murphy said “it’s not easy to become a community leader. I find out that it’s better to put effort into the community to make things better because of the lives of the people and you, the community leader in that vicinity.
“Despite how tight my job is, I find it very interesting to be a community leader because I know if the community is better I’ll also be a beneficiary of the success.”
Speaking on youth engagement in community development, Mr. Murphy said, “The youth should have the mindset of good community development and not that they just want to gain but they want to work, because the service they do comes back to them at the end of the day.
“However, Iju community, as a whole, give our youth orientation on community development and personal development. We’re working on bringing up things of interest like free training on the vocational job and the likes.”
Baale of Iju-Ota, Chief Nurjeem Alagbe, while speaking on Glory-Land community said, “The Community is one of the most organized community in Iju as a whole with a good vision for her residents coupled with youth development and security that have taken part over the years.
“I’ll commend them for their immeasurable work in our society and I’ll also emphasize that they should continue to emulate such behavior and pattern of leadership as time goes on,” he added.
Speaking also, the Chairman of Glory-Land Community Development Association, Iju-Atan-Ota, Ogun State, Olumide Sunday, said, “With the grace of Almighty Allah and the support of the community leaders we’ve been able to harness peace and development in our community, especially with the help of our patron, Mr. Thomas Murphy, among other notable personalities.
“However, one key aspect we’ve been able to emulate is continuity in our governance which means where one chairman stops, the other carries on from there. With this development is highly guaranteed.
“Also, I want to use this medium to sight promises that by this time next year we would have erected concrete poles where wooden poles are present, where there’s no street light we’ll make sure to provide, and by the grace of Almighty God some areas where there’s no light, standby generator will be made available to help the security in that area so as to provide adequate security light.”
The Chairman Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, Iju Unit, Mr. Musibau Olasukanmi acknowledged the role of community leaders in securing Glory-Land from unnecessary chaos especially during the wake of a hike in criminal activities nationwide due to the lockdown and during the wake of the #EndSARS protest.
Mr. Olasukanmi further highlighted ways they have tackled security challenges in the community, adding that the measure taken had given Glory-Land an edge over other communities.
