EPL: We don’t really care – Xhaka disagrees with Arteta after latest poor result

Arsenal midfielder, Granit Xhaka has rubbished claims his actions in recent games for Gunners are of immense help to opposing teams.

The midfielder was in disagreement with his manager, Mikel Arteta, who had questioned Xhaka and his team’s mentality and killer instinct in his post-match press conference.

Xhaka disagreed with his manager’s assessment, saying, “It is not about the mentality. For sure, it’s not,” when asked about Arteta’s words. “If something is not going well, it is easy to show the finger to someone else.”

The Switzerland international has been accused of waking up the opponents’ crowd during the games against Liverpool and West Ham United.

The Gunners now just four points above Manchester City in the Premier League title race, having dropped four points in the last two games against the above-mentioned opponents.

On both occasions, Arsenal players were accused of assisting their opponents come back, with fingers pointing towards Xhaka.

Arsenal was the dominant team at Anfield until Xhaka decided to throw out an elbow at Trent Alexander-Arnold before going head-to-head with the right-back and the previously quiet Anfield was suddenly a cauldron of noise.

A host of pundits blamed Xhaka for creating a flashpoint out of nothing when the game appeared to be in Arsenal’s hands.

“Listen, we don’t really care about who is waking up the fans or not,” the Swiss midfielder told reporters following Sunday’s 2-2 draw in east London.

“This is not our job. They are supporters of West Ham or Liverpool.

“If they support the team or not, it’s not our problem.”
