EPL: Poyet tells Declan Rice how to avoid flopping at Arsenal

Former Premier League player Gus Poyet has told Arsenal’s new signing Declan Rice the only way he could succeed under manager Mikel Arteta.

The 24-year-old joined Arsenal from West Ham for about £100 million plus £5 million in add-ons this summer.

The highly rated midfielder started Arsenal’s pre-season friendly defeat (2-0) against Manchester United.

He made his debut for Arsenal in their 5-0 win over MLS All-Stars, coming on as a substitute in the second half.

Poyet told FourFourTwo about the England international, “I don’t know Declan Rice personally, but the most important thing for him is to understand what Arteta wants and how he wants to play.

“If he understands it all quickly, he’s going to be amazing. The qualities are there, so he’s going to be an Arsenal player for the next ten years for sure.

“But it will depend on the understanding of what Arteta wants…”
