EPL: Paul Scholes has said current Chelsea skipper, Reece James “doesn’t look like a captain”

Former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Scholes, has said current Chelsea skipper, Reece James “doesn’t look like a captain”.

His comments came after manager Enzo Maresca questioned James’ leadership qualities.

Maresca said he “expected more” from the England defender since he arrived at Stamford Bridge club in July.

James, who has been at Chelsea since the age of six, was appointed captain ahead of the 2023-24 campaign following Cesar Azpilicueta’s departure.

Scholes, speaking on The Overlap, also said Cole Palmer does not have the personality to be captain.

He said: “I remember when Reece James got appointed, I thought, he doesn’t look like a captain to me.

“He seems very quiet and shy. You can be captain like that but he’s just not the character that you’d expect for a club the size as Chelsea football club.

“Off the pitch, they are big characters as well that people look up to. I don’t see Cole Palmer as a captain.”
