EPL: Laporte refutes Guardiola’s statement on retaining discontented players at Man City

Former Manchester City player, Aymeric Laporte has refuted manager Pep Guardiola’s previous statement that he does not want to retain discontented players at the club.

While Guardiola stated he was willing to find solutions for unhappy players, several players left Man City during his tenure, including Laporte who moved to Al-Nassr last summer.

When queried on too oft-repeated policy, he stated that ‘for several players it wasn’t like that’, and he preferred not to go into detail.

He expressed his irritation at Guardiola’s preference of playing him as a left-back.

In a recent interview with Radio Marca, Laporte was asked about Guardiola’s frequent claim that the door is always open for unhappy players to move on from City, he replied: “That is what he usually says.

“For several players it wasn’t like that but I’m not going to go into those type of things. I decided to leave and I was able to leave. That is it.”

He added , “I also made that decision for the moment, I think it was the right one, due to life circumstances and also because of my situation at City.”
