#EndSARS protest uncovered police’s inefficiency’ —Ex AIG Agunbiade

A recently retired Assistant Inspector-General, zone 11, Oluyemi Agunbiade has admitted that the #EndSARS protest has revealed the inefficiency of the police system in Nigeria.

This is just as he revealed that some people have hijacked the system of the Nigeria Police, thereby affecting the development of policing in the country.

The retired AIG said this, on Monday, during his retirement ceremony in Osogbo City Stadium.

In his words, “I will ask her officers who are coming after us to make to put the fear of God first in all their approaches to anything. And not only that, they should try and learn the job, because the aftereffect of EndSARS, was just telling us the inefficiency of the police.

“Efficiency only come when you develop your capacity, your capability and your consistency when have been hijacked by my some mediocre who have been put at forefront of the police. I hope the ongoing police reform will rely change the whole system.”

He urged the Federal government to prioritise the welfare of serving officers and men saying, “this must be given greater and urgent attention.

“Training and re-training with an eye on developing capacity, capabilities, competence and best global practices must be emphasized. It is time to embrace technology in combating crime.

“It is my hope that our educators will include in the school curriculum beginning from the elementary class and higher classes, studies in citizenship, valour of service as police officers, military service and in other para-military services. The police motto: ‘Police is your friend’ must be imbibed by the public and the officers through their conduct.

“Serving as a police officer involves a lot of sacrifice and deprivation. At all times, officers must remember their calling and ensure that they are not distracted in the discharge of their duties,” he added.
