ENDSARS protest turned violent in Ikorodu, Lagos State on Sunday, as hoodlums, hijacked the protest to unleash violence in the area.

The residents of Ogonlonto area in Ikorodu Lagos state, and passers-by got more than what they bargained for as street urchins stormed the area, vandalizing vehicles and shops.

The violence which reportedly commenced from Saturday evening, at about 6:pm  lasted till Sunday as the   hoodlums who hijacked the protest,  suddenly became violent, subjecting commuters to injuries, with crumbling of vehicular movement.

In a statement by the Police spokesperson, Lagos State Command, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi (mnipr), the Police confirmed the violence unleashed  by the hoodlums.

However, in the wee hour of Sunday the residents and victims of the Saturday attacks resisted the moves by the acclaimed protesters to gather and foment troubles, as the commander of Area N, Ijede ACP James Usen and his men raced to the area to restore normalcy.

According to the statement, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police,  CP Hakeem Odumosu, claimed that “the protesters barricaded the Ikorodu Expressway at Ogonlonto end, as a result of the ongoing #ENDSARS# protest, started looting shops, attacking motorists, breaking vehicles’ windscreens, side mirrors, snatching bags and phone from the passers-by, throwing and breaking bottles, brandishing cutlasses and other offensive weapons before they were eventually dispersed.”

The Commissioner of Police, therefore, appeals to protesters to properly manage their protests and control themselves to be orderly and peaceful.
