Suspected hoodlums under the guise of EndSARS protesters in Ebonyi have murdered a Police Inspector, Mr Egu Omini and cut off his manhood, police confirms.
The hoodlums also snatched his AK-47 rifle after attacking a police station in Abakaliki, the state capital.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Philip Maku disclosed this in a statement issued to reporters by the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Mrs Loveth Odah, in Abakaliki on Thursday.
In the statement, the Commissioner said, having collated the number of policemen killed in the state. Ebonyi state police Command confirmed that two policemen were killed, while four were injured and five police divisions set ablaze by criminal minded miscreants who hijacked EndSars protest.
The Police, according to DSP Loveth Odah, lamented that the hoodlums also made away with two AK – 47 rifles belonging to the police.
It said the criminals also made an attempt to break and release inmate from Abakaliki correctional center, but the joint force of the Police and other sister security agencies could not allow them access to the facility.
It disclosed that on Wednesday 21st October, 2020 the protests was hijacked by hoodlums suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) who invaded Central Police Station Abakaliki shooting sporadically at the Policemen.
The statement revealed that it was in that process that two Policemen (PC Akpu Paul and PC Ali Samson) sustained bullet injuries and two days later one of the victim PC Paul Akpu died while on admission at Alex-Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki.The hoodlums according to her proceeded to B Division KpriKpri/C Division Ekumenyi (Eke-Abe Police Station) and set the two Stations on fire, after looting exhibit motorcycles, plasma TVs, fans and other valuables from the exhibit rooms.
It regretted that despite the launching of Community Policing by the Inspector-General of Police and the inauguration of the State committees by the Governor of Ebonyi State, aimed at bringing the Police closer to the public, the protesters went ahead to unleash terror on police.
It quoted the Commissioner of Police, Philip Maku as calling on the traditional rulers, Town Union and Youth Presidents, Community and religious leaders to join hands with the Police to maintain peace in their various communities and assist in fishing out the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

“The hoodlums proceeded to B Division KpriKpri/C Division Ekumenyi (Eke-Abe Police Station) and set the two Stations on fire, after looting exhibit motorcycles, plasma TVs, fans and other valuables from the exhibit rooms
“The hoodlums resurfaced on 22nd of October, 2020 and set ablaze Ohaozara Divisional Headquarters and Okposi Police Station together with two patrol vehicles, three exhibit vehicles and the DPO’s car.
“The hoodlums also critically injured Inspr. Egun Omini attached to Ohaozara Division who is currently on admission in the hospital. They looted the two police formations exhibit rooms and vandalized the newly built Okposi Divisional Headquarters which is yet to be commissioned.
“ On Wednesday 28/10/2020 at about 4am the hoodlums again stormed Ezza North Divisional Headquarters, vandalized the building, burnt two vehicles and Exhibit motorcycles. They shot and wounded One Inspr. Okewu Sunday and snatched his AK-47 riffle.
