Empowering less privileged will curb social vices — Commissioner

Looking after the welfare of the less privileged is a worthy means of curbing social vices such as prostitution, drug addiction, cultism, armed robbery among youths in the society.

The President, Millennium Minders club, Hon. Afolabi Afuape stated this at the 21st Anniversary and launch of the  Foundation held in Abeokuta.

According to him, the club aims at  ameliorating  sufferings of members of the society, especially the youths towards making them responsible leaders.

Afuape, who is also the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Ogun State, said members of the club came together while growing up , giving back to the needy and the society for the past, 21 years and also providing scholarships to the best students in their various Alma-Maters.

He noted that the group has organised lectures, talks, and created awareness on career choices, abstinence from cultism, and the benefits of being a good citizen, not leaving out periodic visitations to less privilege homes.

The President  said the need to sustain care for the less privileged in the society brought about the launching of the Millennium Minders Foundation, to allow contributions from well-to-do citizen to meet more needs, adding that, it was their little way of contributing to the development of the society irrespective of tribe, religion, political or socio-cultural backgrounds.

Remarking, the Vice President of the club, Mr. Sina Sonekan, said it was a thing of joy for its members to see the less privileged being taken care of, saying, the way people responded to the call for the uplift  was a pointer that the club was on the right course and that people were eager to help one another in the society.

In their goodwill messages, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, the Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief Mrs. Alaba Lawson, and Senator Solomon Adeola commended the MMF members for the great work they are doing, saying they should not relent in their good work of making life easier for those who thought they have no future.
