The Emir of Nguru, Alhaji Mustapha Ibn-Kyari, has commended the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) for issuing licenses to private and public organizations to conduct National Identity Number (NIN) registration.
Ibn-Kyari made the commendation on Tuesday in Nguru when he visited the headquarters of Isa Nguru Ventures NIN Registration Centre.
He said decentralizing the registration would minimize overcrowding at centres and increase enrolment into the national identity data base.
The Emir also noted that NIN registration would assist government and security outfits in fighting crimes.
Ibn-Kyari directed his subjects to ensure they register to obtain NIN which is the official identification document for Nigerian citizens.
In his speech, Alhaji Ibrahim Isa, Chairman, Isah Nguru Ventures, thanked the Emir for the assessment visit.
Isa said the company had over 40 enrolment centres across the North-East, adding that 10 of the centres were in Nguru.
The chairman, who is also the Chiroma of Nguru Emirate, said over 2,000 persons registered at the headquarters alone since the company began the exercise on March 2.
Isa said NIN registration was free at the centre, adding that the commission needed the number to link it to individuals’ bank details, passport, drivers’ license, phone number, among others.
