The Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage, has urged communities across the state to embrace peace and tolerate one another, irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliations for development to thrive.
Bage made the call on Thursday during a tour of Barkin Abdullahi (B.A.D) chiefdom in Lafia North Development Area of the state.
He said that peace was a necessary requirement for the development of every society.
Bage, who is the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Traditional Rulers, said the visit was part of his efforts to promote peaceful co-existence among people and communities in the state.
” This visit will afford me the opportunity to know how my people are doing; to know their immediate problems so that solutions can be provided or I will pass their message, if any, to the government for necessary action.
“As custodians of culture and peace, it is our role to advise our subjects and other Nigerians on the need to live in peace and tolerate one another, irrespective of our ethnic, religious and political affiliations.
“This is because peace is priceless, non negotiable and a necessary requirement for the development of any society.
“As no society can achieve meaningful progress without peace. So, we must embrace peace at all times for development to thrive,’’ he said.
He also urged the people of the state to give their maximum support to leaders at all levels to enable them to succeed in the task ahead of them.
The emir urged the people to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities and be their brothers’ keepers.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Lafia Local Government Council, Alhaji Aminu Muazu, commended the emir for taking his time to visit his people toward ensuring peaceful co-existence in the state.
Muazu, who was represented by the council’s Secretary, Abubakar Mohammed, said that his administration would continue to support traditional institutions to enable them to succeed.
Responding, Mr Sunday Namo, the Aren Koron Kuje, also thanked the emir for the visit and called for its sustenance.
Namo said that the visit would promote mutual understanding among the people of the state.
The traditional ruler assured of their loyalty and support to the emir at all times to enable him to succeed.
