Emir commends Gombe govt over wheat farming

The Emir of Nafada in Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Hamza, has praised the state government’s support for wheat farmers in his emirate during the 2021 dry season farming.

Hamza gave the commendation at his palace on Tuesday when Governor Inuwa Yahaya and his campaign team paid him a courtesy visit, seeking prayers for his re-election bid.

The royal father said that the state government had during 2021/2022 dry season farming supported no fewer than 200 wheat farmers in his emirate which, he noted, empowered the farmers.

According to him, the dry season is the most profitable for farmers in his domain in view of the associated challenges such as floods that come with the rainy season, ravaging farmlands.

The Emir said that in view of the success of the dry season farming in his domain, no fewer than 500 farmers had indicated interest to cultivate the crop during the 2022/2023 dry season farming.

Hamza appealed to the governor to support the farmers who had indicated an interest in cultivating wheat in the dry season with inputs in an effort to empower the farmers and boost food security.

He also appealed to the governor to help his emirate to tackle the challenge of insecurity, particularly kidnapping which, he said, had become rampant.

“Our youths are helping to address the challenge of kidnapping by intercepting them and handing them over to security agencies.

`We want the government to help train our youths so they can properly assist the security agencies tackle kidnapping in our emirate,” the emir said.

Earlier, Yahaya said he was at the emir’s palace to thank the people of the emirate for their support for his election in 2019 and to seek prayers for his re-election bid.

He assured the people that if re-elected he would consolidate the gains recorded in his first term.
