The Osun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has advised road users in the state to embrace defensive driving techniques, DDT, for safety in the ember months to avoid loss of lives and properties.
It also warned against safety negligence that could lead to carnage on highway in the ember months.
The Osun Sector Commander, Henry Benamaisia, who made the appeal on the sideline of the ember months flag-off exercise in Osogbo also called for support of all transport stakeholders and sister security agencies.
“The command would intensify its sensitisation campaign and public enlightenment across motor parks, churches, mosque and other public places with other safety activities in the ember months.
“Continuous stakeholders collaboration and improved enforcement on road traffic regulations with prompt rescue would go a long in saving lives and property.
“The numbers of road traffic accidents during the ember months is as a result of high volumes of people and vehicular movement on highway making road users to indulge in traffic violations,” he said.
Benamaisia called for defensive driving techniques by motorists and total obedience to road traffic regulations by all road users in the state.
Earlier, the Chairman, Osun State Transport Management Services, OSTMS, Nurudeen Arowonle, charged his members to always drive with safety when embarking on long distance journey.
He said some OSTMS executives always ensure that they stayed at strategic bus-stops to further encourage drivers on the need for defensive driving techniques.
Also, the National Ex-Officio, Special Marshals, Tunji Ajiboye, said the special marshals would complement the efforts of the regular officers in ensuring the safety of lives and property in the ember months.
“Safety is a shared responsibility for everyone to imbibe and not only in the hands of the road safety management officers.
The theme of the 2023 ember months flag-off is “Speed thrills but kills; drive responsibly and avoid overloading,” he said.
