Electricity: Embrace MAP scheme to obtain meters, JED urges customers

The Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JED) has advised its customers to take advantage of the Meter Asset Providers (MAP) scheme introduced by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to be metered.

The Managing Director of the company, Mr Abdu Mohammed, made the call on Saturday at the Mobile Re-launch of the scheme at various locations in Jos.

Represented by Felix Adamu of the Metering Department of the company, Mohammed said that the company had secured enough meters for its unmetered customers.

The managing director, who was optimistic that soon all its customers would be metered, urged them to embrace the scheme without delay.

”Meter remains the only credible implement that can be used by customers in measuring energy consumption.

”We currently have enough meters at the disposal of our vendors and we call on our customers without meters to take advantage of the MAP scheme to have one,” he advised.

Mohammed explained that the company had engaged the services of credible vendors with enough meters awaiting customers’ patronage.

”A single-phase meter costs N63,06.00, while a three-phase meter costs N117,010.

”The cost of the meter will be repaid to customers via energy within a given period as specified by the regulator.

”Immediately payment is made and evidence of payment presented to us, the customer will be metered within ten working days,” he said.

The event, which had the Desk Officer of MAP, Mr Nasiru Faskari, and other staff members of the company in attendance, took place at Polo, Rantiya, Rukuba Road and state Low-Cost areas of Jos.
