Electoral fraud: Expert advocates e-voting

By Oluwatobiloba Oyeniyi

A legal practitioner and public commentator, Barrister Olu Odeyemi has advocated for electronic voting method in the 2019 election to curb electoral malpractices in the country.

In a chat with Nigerian NewsDirect, he described the letter written by elder statesman Dr. Olusegun Obasanjo to Buhari as a lucid advice which must be taken seriously rather than a political dialogue which some experts have described it as it is capable of saving the country from the current bad situation it is experiencing.

He described President Buhari Administration as fair but the cabals in his government are major hindrances for him from fulfilling his campaign promises to Nigerians.

He said Nigerians are tired of the multiplicity of parties that have nothing to offer but leaders who have the mind of the people at heart and such that will lead the country to the promised land.

Odeyemi charged the government to respect the Nigerians pensioners because they truly deserved their wages as many of them are having issues with their pension arrears while many pensioners died while waiting for it. He advocated two options for the retirees, either they collect it bit by bit till they die or they should be paid 5years outright payment.

He believes government should pay them the outright payment to let them settle for a better retirement life.

He charged the government to be proactive in tackling unemployment among Nigerian youths by providing job to them as this will reduce vices among them. He was of the opinion that civil servants that have spent 35years in service and are up to 60 years of age should be retired and empowered to provide jobs so that they can complement the efforts of the government in improving the Nigerian economy.
