EKSG warns against indiscriminate refuse dumping

The Ekiti State Government on Tuesday warned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse to forestall incidence of flooding as the rainy fully sets in.

Mrs Iyabo Fakunle Okieimen, the state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, said this while briefing newsmen in Ado Ekiti.

Okieimen said the warning had become necessary as rains have fully set in with its negative tendencies.

The commissioner said that culprits would be made to face the wrath of the law to check the unwholesome and unhygienic practice.

Okieimen said that task force officials of the ministries had been stationed in strategic locations across the state to arrest violators of the state environmental laws.

” As the rainy season sets in, we are ready more than ever before to check the unwholesome attitude of throwing refuse indiscriminately, as those caught would not only be apprehended but also made to face legal action,” she said.

She highlighted the importance of maintaining a clean environment, saying a clean environment would engender healthy atmosphere and check outbreak of epidemic.

Okieimen reiterated the commitment of the current administration to provide a clean, healthy and conducive environment for rapid growth and development.

The commissioner added that no stone would be left unturned toward guaranteeing the general wellbeing of people in the state.
