Ekiti state is behind in the internally generated revenue realized from roads taxes as it recorded only 0.55per cent representing about N85.14million from a total of N15.24billion generated by the six states that constitute the South West Nigeria.
Despite Covid-19 restrictions, Lagos State took the largest chunk of the revenue generated from road taxes by the entire South West states as it gulped 79.64per cent which represents about N12.14 billion.
Other states are Ogun, Oyo, Ondo and Osun states with 4.90per cent, 5.92per cent, 7.04per cent and 1.95per cent respectively.
While Ogun State could only manage to generate N746.99 million from a total of N15.24bllion, Ondo state, though with wider margin of difference, came behind Lagos State as it generated N1.07billion in the year ended.
Also, Oyo state despite its partial closure during the COVID-19 pandemic trailed Ondo state as it was able to realize N903.37 billion from the total money generated by the six states of South West Nigeria.
Osun state fared better than Ekiti state in road transport taxes as it made just a little above N296.24 billion which represents from the year ended.
However, data from the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics( NBS)showed that the entire internally generated revenue of Ogun, Oyo, Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo and Osun States stood at N561 billion of which revenue realized from roads taxes is a little above 2.71per cent of the IGR generated by the entire states in the region in the year ended.
In Ogun state, taxes collected from road transports contributed by 1.47per cent to the total internally generated revenue of the state in the year 2020.
While road taxes added 2.90per cent to the total IGR of Lagos State which stood at N418.99billion in 2020 but constituted 74.68per cent of the IGR of the entire South West states.
Also, Ondo State had it IGR jumped to N24.85billion, which represents only 4.43per cent of the entire IGR of the six South West states, by 4.32 per cent through road transports taxes in the year 2020.
