Ekiti: Police arrest ex-convict, two others for robbery, kidnapping, murder

The Ekiti State Police Command has apprehended three  suspects, including a former convict, in connection with armed robbery, kidnapping, and murder incidents in the state.

According to DSP Sunday Abutu, the command’s spokesperson, the arrests were made following recent security breaches, particularly attacks on Point of Sale (PoS) agents and incidents of violence including murder and kidnapping.

Among the arrested suspects is Omowaye Ayodele, alias Baba Ogbon, who had been previously incarcerated for kidnapping and was released in May this year. He was apprehended in Akure. The other suspects are Ojo Temidayo, also known as Yellow, and Busari Lookman, known as Abbey.

Abutu stated that the suspects confessed to their involvement in the robbery and murder of Aina Adeyemi, a middle-aged woman near the Federal Polytechnic Satellite campus on July 6, 2024, during which they stole N155,000 from her.

He added that Ayodele also admitted to participating in the kidnapping and subsequent murder of former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Professor Femi Olaofe.

The police swiftly responded to the crime scenes and initiated investigations, leading to the arrest of Omowaye Ayodele in Akure. During interrogation, Ayodele implicated Ojo Temidayo and Busari Lookman as his accomplices in various criminal activities.

Lookman confessed that he shot the victim during the robbery and passed on a portion of the stolen money to Ayodele and Temidayo. Ayodele also confessed to being part of a kidnapping syndicate involved in the abduction of Professor Femi Olaofe at Federal Housing Area, Ado-Ekiti.

Ayodele further revealed his involvement in multiple robberies targeting Point of Sale (POS) operators in Ado-Ekiti, including areas like Bawa Estate and Better Life Area.

Ojo Temidayo, identified as a seller of Indian hemp and a fraudster, also admitted to his criminal activities.

The arrested suspects are currently undergoing investigation, and efforts are underway to apprehend Sunday Onyema, another member of their gang who remains at large with alleged possession of their operational weapons.

The Ekiti State Police Command assured that the suspects would be arraigned in court as investigations proceed.
