The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it has deployed no fewer than 601 personnel for its Special Eid-el-Kabir Operation within Enugu State to ensure hitch-free flow of traffic.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Enugu State, Mr Joseph Udoabba, disclosed this to the newsmen in Enugu on Friday.
Udoabba said that the corps also deployed 22 vehicles for the operation, which included: 19 patrol vehicles, two tow trucks and one ambulance.
He said that the operation began on Friday, July 16, adding that the special operation in major corridors of the state would last for 10 days, thereby ending on July 25.
The sector commander said that the 601 personnel deployed included 172 Special Marshals and 429 Regular Marshals (155 officers and 274 route marshals).
Udoabba said that the personnel deployed were advised to engage in purposeful public enlightenment and education as well as speedy removal of obstruction from highways among others.
“Our personnel will also ensure enforcement and strict compliance to COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols in commercial vehicles,’’ he said.
The FRSC commander also advised travelers to prepare on time for their journeys and “avoid night journeys as much as possible’’.
“If you must drive do not take alcohol or any psycho-active substance that will blur your thinking or vision while driving.
“Drive with care and accommodation of other road users.
“Moderate and lower your speed level especially in human and commercial built-up areas or streets to 30 kilometre per hour,’’ he said.
Udoabba also wished all Nigerians well, especially Muslim faithful, as they celebrate and observe the public holidays.
“In all, celebrate as well as drive responsibly to stay alive; your family and friends need you’’.
