Eid-el-Kabir: FRSC advises motorists to adopt defensive driving
Federal Road Safety Corps (FR SC), Osun Command, has advised motorists to embrace defensive driving while on the highway and shun use of worn-out tyres.
FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr Henry Benamesia, stated this on the sidelines of a sallah mega rally, held at Ota-Efun motor park, on Tuesday in Osogbo.
The theme of the rally was: “Driving tired is as dangerous as driving drunk: Avoid overloading, night trips, worn-out tyres and excessive speeding.”
Benamesia also urged motorists to be more disciplined and drive in accordance with safety regulations.
He cautioned motorists against driving for long hours, saying that this could endanger the lives of passengers.
“When tyres are worn out, they can easily slip and this can lead to serious accidents, with the attendant loss of lives and property.
“I want to also urge motorists to always check their vehicle brakes, engines and alignments, and also avoid anything that can lead to accident on the highway,” he said.
Chairmen of the motor park, Messrs Oriyomi Fatai and Mr Semiu Ajibade, praised the sector commander for enlightening their members on dangerous driving, particularly on the highway.
The duo promised to ensure that drivers embraced defensive driving and also do away with using worn-out tires and driving long hours without taking a nap.
Earlier, the command’s Head of Operations, Mrs Medinat Akanbi, called for synergy between the FRSC personnel on the highway and road transport workers.
