Eid-El-Fitri: Police, FRSC task public on peaceful celebration in Rivers

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command and his counterpart, the Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) in Rivers State,Salisu Galadunci have congratulated the people of Rivers State as they join others in the country to mark this Year’s Eid-el-Fitr Celebration, tasking them on peaceful celebration.

According to a release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) of the Command,SP Grace Iringe-Koko,the CP,Effiong Okon has reassured them of the provision of adequate security and safety during and beyond the period of the celebration.

“Accordingly, the CP has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Heads of Tactical/Operational Units of the Command to deploy all operational and intelligence assets at their disposal, to effectively police their areas of responsibilities and ensure smooth celebrations during and after the Eid-ek-Fitr celebration,”the statement said.

The Police Commissioner also called on Muslim faithful to use the period to pray for the peace and progress of Rivers State and Nigeria at large.

Meanwhile, residents of the State have been called upon to remain supportive, law-abiding, vigilant and promptly report acts of crime and criminality to the nearest Police Station or by calling the Command’s emergency hotlines on 08032003514 and 08098880134.

In the same vein,the FRSC,Rivers State Command said it has launched a special operations during this year’s Ramadan, urging Muslims and non-muslims to celebrate the festival peacefully.

“In a bid to actualize the Corps Mandate in minimizing the risk of death as a result of road traffic crashes, the Rivers State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has embarked on Eid-El-Fitri Special Operations as a proactive measure to check drivers excesses so as to reduce the rate and resultant loss of lives and properties,”the Corps said.

According to a statement issued by the Route Commander and Ag Public Education Officer of the Command, Juliana Eni, on behalf the Sector Commander,the operations will be targeted at the following:

Deploying personnel to strategic locations, intensifying enforcement on critical offences capable of causing serious injuries or instant loss of life, traffic control to ease traffic and prompt response to emergencies,as well as quick removal of obstruction.

The statement pointed out that the Sector Commander, Salisu Galadunci has deployed 5,000 personnel, 4,000 Special Marshals, as well as 30 vehicles and 2 ambulances for the operation.

The statement also hinted that Mr. Galadunci wishes the good people of Rivers State and all road users a safe and hitch free movement during the Celebration.
