Eid-el-fitr: FRSC deploys personnel to 51 critical roads nationwide
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed over 28,000 regular and special marshals to cover 51 critical roads nationwide during the Sallah celebration.
The Corps Public Education Officer, Jonas Agwu, said in a statement on Monday in Abuja, that the deployment was to make the highways safe in view of the envisioned increase in vehicular movement.
He said that the personnel would eliminate all variables that propel road traffic crashes, fatalities and injuries.
The corridors to be covered include: Akwanga-Lafiya-Makurdi, Jos-Bauchi-Gombe, Sokoto-Tambuwal-Jega-Birnin Kebbi corridor, Katsina-Kano-Wudil-Dutse-Azare-Potiskum corridor,
Others are: Kaduna-Saminaka-Jos corridor, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano corridor, Okene-Ogori-Isua-Owo corridor, Makurdi-Otukpo-Obollo Afor-9th Mile corridor, Asaba-Abraka-Ughelli-Warri corridor, Ibadan-Ogere-Sagamu corridor,
The others are Sagamu-Mowe-Lagos corridor, Bauchi-Alkaleri-Kaltungo, Kaduna-Kachia-Kwoi-Manchok, Keffi-Nasarawa-Toto-Abaji-Lokoja, and Lekki-Epe-Ijebu Ode, among others.
Agwu said that the Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali-Biu, has congratulated the Muslim ummah and wished them a blissful, peaceful and safe driving experience during the festivities.
He called on the motoring public to adhere to the lessons of Ramadan and the teachings of the Prophet by imbibing patience and avoiding recklessness.
Ali-Biu also tasked them to drive within specified legal speed limit and desist from overloading of vehicles and use of trailers to convey passengers.
He directed operatives of the Corps to deploy all professional expertise towards ensuring free flow of traffic, prompt clearing of obstructions and effective enforcement of traffic laws.
According to him, critical operational equipments have been deployed to help the personnel in the operational front.
These include Radar Guns, Breathalysers to check drunk drivers, traffic cones and other operational logistics.
He assured that the personnel would maintain 24-hour patrol along the highways while others will be on standby.
