EFCC to investigate vessel seized by Navy for oil theft

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the initiation of an investigation into a vessel apprehended by the Nigerian Navy Ship NNS FORMOSSO, stationed in Brass, Bayelsa State. The vessel, identified as Bravo Alero, was found transporting 200 liters of a substance suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

According to a statement released on the EFCC’s official X account on Friday, the Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate of the EFCC has taken charge of the investigation. The vessel, which was seized by the Nigerian Navy and suspected of involvement in oil theft in the Niger Delta region, has been handed over to the EFCC for further inquiry and potential legal action.

Captain Ifeanyichukwu Mabeokwu of NNS FORMOSSO expressed gratitude to the EFCC and voiced confidence in the Commission’s ability to thoroughly investigate and potentially prosecute the case. He also reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to continued collaboration with the EFCC in combating illegal oil bunkering activities in the region.
