EFCC arrests 17 suspected internet fraudsters in Kwara
Seventeen individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud have been arrested by operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during a series of coordinated sting operations carried out in various parts of Kwara State.
The arrests took place on Tuesday, 13 May 2025, in multiple locations including the Asa Dam area, Al-Hikmah University axis, and Gaa-Odota in Ilorin. Additional arrests were made in Ganmo and Amoyo, both in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
The operations were based on credible intelligence linking the suspects to ongoing cyber-related criminal activities within the region. According to the EFCC, the intelligence had been carefully analysed and verified before the raids were carried out.
Upon apprehension, items recovered from the suspects included three luxury vehicles, an assortment of high-end mobile phones, and several laptop computers believed to have been used in the commission of the alleged crimes.
This latest operation follows closely on the heels of a similar one last week, which resulted in the arrest of 47 other suspects in Ilorin and parts of Ifelodun LGA. That earlier operation was also prompted by intelligence pointing to widespread online fraud in the area.
The EFCC has stated that all suspects will be formally charged in court as soon as ongoing investigations are concluded.
