The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has assured its customers in Anambra of improved power supply.
Mr Emeka Ezeh, Head, Corporate Communications of EEDC, gave the assurance in a statement made available to newsmen in Awka on Thursday.
He said that no less than 35 communities of the state would benefit from the gesture.
Ezeh said the assurance became necessary following the inauguration of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) 2x60MVA 132/33KV Station at Awka last week.
Reports said that Vice-President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo inaugurated the project in company of Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra and Mr Chiedu Ugbo, the Managing Director, Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited.
Ezeh said the electricity demand in Anambra, especially the urban areas was growing and that the project would address the rise in demand.
“EEDC management was present at the commissioning and is happy because it is timely, and will greatly impact our quality of service within Awka, Ogidi and Ekwulobia districts.
“The 2 x 60MVA power transformers will de-load the existing 40MVA transformers, thereby drastically increasing the available distribution capacity by 300 per cent.
“This will enable EEDC to accommodate more load and energy to meet the increasing power demand of customers under Awka, Ogidi and Ekwulobia districts.
“This is a major stake in the increasing efforts in our commitment to delivering improved supply services to our customers in Awka and our entire franchise area,” he said.
Eze said the 35 communities that would benefit from the project included: Amansea, Egbeagu, Umuokpara, Orede, Ebenebe, Ugbenu, Okpuno, Mgbakwu, Umudunu, Abagana, Orofia, Eziawutolo, Amaenye, Ukpo, Abba and Enu-Ifite.
Others are: Ezinato-Ifite, Agbana-Ifite, Umuayom, Umunnoke, Umuoramma, Umuokpu, Achallaoji, Umunamoke, Agbana, Umudiaba, Amachalla, Amudo, Umuzocha, Awkuzu, Aguleri, Nteje, Achalla, Ukwulu, Nawgu and environs.
He said EEDC had in the past, executed network expansion projects in Awka, geared towards improving the quality of service to its customers, including the construction of a 7.5MVA Injection Substation at ABS Awka.
He said the company had also upgraded lines, deployed relief transformers and rearranged the supply network for better power supply.
“EEDC, therefore, call on all customers to reciprocate by the prompt payment of their energy bills, as that will help us sustain these installations and deliver quality service.
“They are also enjoined to develop an ownership attitude towards electricity installations which is an important lifeline in electricity delivery to customers,” he said.
