Edo records 1 confirmed case of Mpox in 8 months
Dr. Stephenson Ojeifo, the Director of Public Health at the Edo State Ministry of Health, has reported that the state confirmed a single case of Mpox from January to August this year. On Friday, Ojeifo detailed that this confirmed case emerged from 11 suspected cases identified within the state during the specified period.
He explained that all 11 samples were submitted to the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja, with results for 10 of these samples already received. The remaining result is pending because the sample was collected in Delta State, even though the patient is from Edo, thus the result is being processed through Delta.
Of the 10 results received, one was confirmed positive. This case was among the three suspected cases reported earlier in August. The confirmed case involved a patient from Esan West Local Government Area, who has since recovered and been discharged.
Ojeifo assured that the patient was in good health upon discharge and stated that contact tracing has been conducted. No additional symptoms of Mpox have been reported among the contacts. The state is continuously enhancing its surveillance and border control measures to manage and prevent further cases.
