Edo mobile court convicts 38 tricycle/bike operators without rider’s permit.

A Mobile Magistrates’ Court on Agbor Road, Ikpoba-Okah Local Government area, Edo, on Friday convicted 38 persons for operating tricycles/bikes without rider’s permit.

The Chief Magistrate, Mutairu Oare, convicted the 38 persons and ordered them to pay between N2,000 and N3,000 fines, after they had pleaded liable to the offence.

Oare also ordered the convicts to obtain the rider’s permit within 24 hours.

He said that if they failed to obtain the permit after 24 hours, parking fees would be charged on their impounded bikes and tricycles.

He added that and after six weeks, the tricycles and bike would be forfeited to the state government.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Mrs Joy Oteki, had told the court that the 38 persons were apprehended within Agbor Road and Ikpoba-Hill axis, for riding their bikes and tricycles without permit.

Oteki said the offence contravened Section 9(4) and item 27 of the Second Schedule of the Edo Traffic Control and Management Agency Law, 2010.

Reports state that some of the convicts were seen making the N10,000 payment to the officials of the state Board of Internal Revenue for the rider’ s permit.
