…says Giadom faction can’t constitute NEC

By Tom Okpe, Abuja

National Working Committee, NWC of the All Progressive Congress, APC has received report of the constituted Edo State Governorship Primary Election, declaring that there are no factions in the NWC, dismissing claims that a factional acting National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Giadom has fixed a meeting of the National Executive Committee NEC for Thursday.

The Abiola Ajimobi-led NWC faction said Giadom has no power to convene a NEC meeting of the party.

According to the report, Pastor Ize Iyamu emerged flag- bearer in the forthcoming State Governorship election.

The Chairman of the committee and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma represented by the Committee Secretary, Ajibola Bashiru made the submission at the Party Secretariat, Tuesday evening after a meeting of the NWC.

The party Secretariat was earlier sealed-off earlier in the day by stern looking Policemen from the Wuse Division, led by its Divisional Police Officer, CSP Mamman Joseph by order of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

The Secretariat was later opened to the NWC and journalists for the meeting.

Receiving the report on behalf of the party, acting National Chairman of the party, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, represented by Hilliard Etta, National Vice Chairman South- South commended the Committee for what he described as ‘perfect job,’ saying that the party is 80 percent through, winning the September governorship election.

Speaking on the Secretariat  been sealed with Police men in camouflag uniform, Etta said, “You said our party Secretariat has become a battle ground and I walked in here, I never saw bullet, I never saw guns, I didn’t see anybody in camouflage.

“So, our party Secretariat is not a battle ground and the police has released an information to the entire country signed by Frank MBA, the PPRO. If the police has released that information, I don’t know if I have any information that has been released by the police.

“It is not true that our party Secretariat has become a battle ground. A lot of people look at disagreement and bickering in political parties as if it is war. When you have more than two people in a human organisation, there are bound to be conflict , there are bound to be friction.

“Article 25B (i and ii) of the APC Constitution (2014 as amended) states; “The National Executive Committee shall meet every quarter and or at any time decided by the National Chairman or at the request made in writing by at least two-thirds of the members of the National Executive Committee provided that not less than fourteen days’ notice is given for the meeting to be summoned.

“Without prejudice to Article 25 (B) (i) of this Constitution, the National Working Committee may summon an emergency National Executive Committee meeting at any time, provided that at least seven days’ notice of the meeting shall be given to all those entitled to attend.”

It was reported that the Police claimed they didn’t seal the party Secretariat but we’re there to maintain law and other, safe-guarding lives and properties.

On Oshiomhole’s suspension, Etta said: “The NWC on receipt of communication from the Edo state chapter of our party with regards to the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole both by Ward 10, Etsako west and the Etsako west local government chapter of our party. We acknowledged the receipt of same and accept the lifting of that suspension.”

When asked about the power tussle and factions in the party, the representative of the acting National Chairman stated that; “It is not right to refer to 17 members, with 15 of them physically present and two who met with us physically as a faction. This is the National Working Committee, NWC of the APC in Nigeria.

“I sit here on behalf of Senator Abiola Ajimobi as the acting Chairman of this party.

“If Victor Giadom is arranging a NEC meeting, I believe that it is your responsibility as members of the fourth estate of the realm to investigate his locus to find out whether he has the legal, the constitutional backing to be able to call a NEC meeting.

“As we speak, the membership of Chief Victor Giadom has been suspended by a competent court of jurisdiction in Port Harcourt this afternoon. Not only is he, not a member of the NWC from today, his membership of the APC has been suspended. So, when you call him factional acting Chairman, we wonder why,” he added.
