Ede PDP fracas: Two killed, vehicles, houses razed over election fund

There was pandemonium in Ede, Osun State on Friday evening where fracas occured between members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at a weekly ward meeting over remnants of the just concluded Governorship election fund.

According to an eyewitness whose car was vandalised, the fracas ensued when they were holding a ward meeting between a woman identified as Kareem Silifat popularly called ‘Iya Elemo’ who is a PDP member and Daud Nureni, a driver of the present minority leader of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Babajide Kofoworola.

“The incident occured at a PDP ward meeting where Assembly member, Babajide Kofoworola was present. The woman asked for the remnants of the Governorship election fund in which a driver of the minority leader abused and maltreated the woman.

“The woman quickly informed her sons how she was humiliated by the driver of minority leader of the Osun State House of Assembly which angered the sons.

“The police in Ede were invited and the matter was settled. But one of the woman’s sons called Tunde who is an APC member was not satisfied on how his mother was maltreated, then invited his younger and elder brothers for revenge.”

The eyewitness alleged Hon. Babajide of inviting members of the Special Anty Robbery Squared (SARS) to the place of the incident and one Kareem Abideen (Kuranga) was allegedly shot died while his corp was taken away by the police.

He further stated that this infuriated the youths and started vandalizing vehicles while the constituency office of the minority leader and his father’s house were said to have been razed.

Contacted on phone by Nigerian NewsDirect, Hon. Kofoworola said, “The incident occured 6:00 pm on Friday when I went for a ward PDP meeting and a woman who is a PDP member, Mrs Kareem Silifat also known as ‘Iya Elemo’ abusing my driver, Dauda Nureni who is the secretary of the ward”.

“What I could see was the two daughters of the woman, Mariam and Rukayat pouring water on everybody at the meeting. The woman also has two notorious sons, Ganiyu Ibrahim and Demi Fasogbo who were members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who brought out dangerous weapons and started pursuing everybody at the area.

“My driver was injured and had to called one of his friends, Aweda who was a police officer at ‘A division, Pere’ in Ede North Local Government Area and rescued two of us.”

“I then left Ede for Osogbo immediately and was informed that policemen who were on their way met the fracas and in an attempt to stop the incident, one the boys brought out pistol and one of the policemen shot him died.

“They have razed my father’s house and his whereabouts still unknown.”

The Osun Police Spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident.
