Chairman of Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Mrs Euphemia Nwali, has advocated for 50 percent appointment of women in politics into the administrations of President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Francis Nwifuru as the Governor of Ebonyi State, on May 29, 2023.
Nwali made this known while speaking with newsmen after the stone foundation laying of a train station construction of the rail line from Abakaliki to the International Airport, Ezza South, Onueke.
Newsmen reports that Tinubu and Nwifuru of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and other governors-elect from various states will be inaugurated on May 29, 2023.
Nwali urged the leaders of the nation, especially in the southeast geopolitical zone to give women a chance to contribute their quota in the development and building of peace in Nigeria.
She further called on the political leaders of the region to support Tinubu.
According to her: “Before now, we have 35 percent (35%) of women appointed into political positions, but now, we demand for fifty percent (50%) appointment. If the coming administration will give us this percentage, we will be happy. This is because, if you empower a woman, you empower a nation.”
She called on women in politics across the country to be hardworking, transparent and dedicated to their duties as a way to bring reforms to the nation’s leadership.
“South East zone is part of Nigeria and it is very necessary that they support the incoming administration Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the President of Nigeria. Why can’t south east zone support Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is he not the President-elect.
“It is very necessary that South East zone support the President-elect for the development of the nation or do you have any other President-elect? I know, they don’t have,” she said.
Nwali urged Tinubu to ensure total inclusion of the South East zone in the scheme of things.
“South East zone should be carried along in the national politics. They should be treated to have equal opportunity with other zones of the Federation. We are part of Nigeria, and as such, whatever that is done to other regions, should as well be done to South East zone,” she stressed.
