Easter: TRACE commences special operations in 12 major traffic corridors in Ogun
Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) says it has commenced operation ‘Safe and Responsible Driving’ in all the 12 major traffic corridors in the state.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of TRACE, Cdr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, on Thursday in Abeokuta.
Akinbiyi listed some of the affected corridors to include Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Atan-Lusada-Agbara-Badagry expressway and the Interchange-Sagamu-Ijebu/Ode-Benin/Ore Expressway.
Others, according to him, are Abeokuta-Kobape-Siun-Interchange expressway and Lafenwa/Rounder-Olorunda-Aiyetoro-Imeko-Ilara border, amongst others.
He said that the exercise would ensure a 24-hour motorised patrol to ensure safety of road users.
The TRACE spokesman said that the exercise was aimed at guaranteeing effective traffic management, timely clearance of obstructions and prompt rescue/emergency services.
He said that the exercise was in collaboration with other security agencies before, during and after the Easter celebrations.
“The operation, which commenced on April 11, will involve deployment of the full strength of the TRACE corps operational resources to man strategic beats and choke points, especially diversions and construction zones, across the state’s 12 major traffic corridors.
“This is to check the excesses of recalcitrant motorists.
“The corps envisages a high volume of vehicular and human traffic during the Easter holidays, with its attendant traffic build-up, breakdown of ill-maintained vehicles, obstruction, speeding, reckless and drunk driving and road crashes,” he said.
Akinbiyi, however, urged all TRACE corps operatives to be humane, civil and exhibit high level professionalism, even as he urged the public, particularly the motorists, to ensure crash-free celebrations.
While wishing Christian faithful happy and felicitous Easter celebrations, he enjoined motorists to ensure strict compliance with traffic rules and regulations.
The TRACE spokesman warned that any vehicle apprehended for traffic infraction during the period would not be released until April 25, when the corps would have ended the Easter special operations.
