E-governance: Nasarawa Govt begins training of Heads of ICT Units
The Nasarawa State Government has begun training for Heads of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) preparatory to the implementation of its e-governance policy.
The two-day training which started on Wednesday in Lafia, was organised by the Office of the Head of Civil Service in collaboration with the Bureau for Information and Communication Technology (BICT).
Speaking at the event, Barr Abigail Waya, Acting Head of Civil Service (HOS) said the exercise was aimed at equipping the participants with requisite knowledge for the smooth digital switchover of government activities.
“We are here today to strengthen the foundation upon which ICT is built, by training and ensuring that those in charge of ICT in our MDAs understand what is expected of them and the direction the government is working towards as we move to e-governance.
“The administration of Abdullahi Sule is committed to the digitalisation of our system of work, training and re-training, towards building efficient and a vibrant digital economy,” she added
The HOS added that Data Processing and Protection Officers, Confidential Secretaries, Executive Officers and Directors from all the MDAs would be trained in the next phase of the exercise.
She further explained that the training was to also create more understanding and improve efficiency on ICT to enable staff to drive the process of e-governance in their respective MDAs.
Waya added that ICT was now a prerequisite for all public servants in the state in order to key into the idea of the government to go paperless in the next few months.
Similarly, Mr Emi Kasuwa, Director Training, Grading and Pension, Office of the Head of the Civil Service, while, welcoming participants from more than 40 MDAs in the state, said that the training was to equip them on the technical know-how for digital switchover of government activities.
Kasuwa, tasked the participants to take the training seriously to justify the investment by the government and drive the process of e-governance in their respective MDAs.
Earlier, Mr Shehu Ibrahim, Director-General BITC, said the training would guide heads of ICT on website creation, email usage and how to manage other social media platforms in their respective MDAs.
Ibrahim advised that the knowledge gained at the exercise should be steppeddown and use to achieve e-governance in the state.
He said that the bureau would help to ensure that MDAs have functional website, email and other social media platforms to conduct activities digitally.
He added that when the policy was fully implemented, the use of paper would be replaced with computers, phones and other digital platforms.
Responding, some beneficiaries, Azumeh Yamu from office of the Head of Service and Adamu Williams-Yakubu from Teachers Service Commission, expressed gratitude to the government for the training and promised to utilise the knowledge gained.
