DSTG commences development of housing scheme for low-income earners

Delta State Government has set the ball rolling for the development of housing scheme for low-income earners to meet expectations of massive reduction in housing deficit in the state.

The Commissioner for Housing, Chief Festus Ochonogor who spoke to journalists, during a visit to the ministry headquarters in Asaba affirmed that the state government was not ignorant of the housing deficit in the state.

“We are kicking off immediately with the implementation of the pilot scheme geared towards making housing available for Deltans.

“Budgetary provisions have been made and we are currently completing the documentation process as well as the acquisition of land for the property,” he said.

He however noted that the location for the pilot scheme was yet to be ascertained.

The housing commissioner also confirmed that the ministry was ready to commence activities for the new year, emphasizing that workers were already fully on ground to do the needful.

“We will continue the monitoring and completion of projects, including the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) building, State Ecumenical Centre which is currently ongoing.

“We are also seeing to the completion and inauguration of the new State Secretariat, Maryam Babangida Way, Asaba, alongside the Federal Road Safety School in Owa-Alero,” he stated.

Ochonogor hinted that the New Secretariat Complex, when completed, would accommodate all ministries and some essential parastatals.

“The rest of the parastatals that cannot be accommodated in the new complex would then have to vacate hired property and move to vacant ones government by owned,” he said.
