DSS denies raiding NLC headquarters in Abuja

DSS denies raiding NLC headquarters in Abuja

The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied reports that its operatives raided the headquarters of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja.

The NLC had alleged that armed men, purportedly from the DSS, stormed its office on Wednesday evening, making off with several documents.

However, DSS Spokesperson Peter Afunanya on Thursday refuted the accusation, stating that the agency had no involvement in the incident. “The Service (DSS) did not carry out any operation at the NLC office in Abuja,” Afunanya said in a brief statement.

The NLC has condemned the invasion, describing it as an unlawful act and demanding the immediate withdrawal of security operatives from its premises.

The NLC also expressed dismay, noting that even during military rule, its secretariat was never subjected to such an invasion.

According to the NLC, the assailants ransacked the bookshop on the second floor, seizing hundreds of books and other publications.

The NLC alleged that the invading team claimed to be searching for seditious materials allegedly used during the #EndBadGovernance protests.

The incident has sparked outrage, with many condemning the actions of the security operatives. The NLC has called for an immediate investigation into the incident and the withdrawal of security operatives from its premises.
