Driver remanded for alleged reckless driving

A Mapo Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Ibadan, on Friday, ordered that a 50-year-old driver, Mustafa Bashiru, be remanded in a correction centre for alleged reckless driving and knocking down a pedestrian.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Latunji, gave the order after he was unable to fulfill the N250,000 with two reliable sureties bail conditions granted him.

Latunji adjourned the suit until April 22 for trial.

The police prosecutor, Insp Oluseye Akinola, had earlier informed the court that Bashiru who pleaded not guilty was charged with causing grievous injury.

Akinola added that the defendant committed the crime on March 24, at about 4:45 pm, in front of D-cart building, Ring Road, Ibadan, Oyo State.

He said that Bashiru recklessly drove a ‘Lzzan’ bus with reg. no. BDG988YH and hit a 27-year-old woman, Adedolapo Oyewumi which caused her serious bodily injury.

According to Akinola, the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 18 of the Road Safety Act of Oyo State.
