A 20-year-old driver, Bakare Sadiq, who allegedly drove a vehicle in a reckless and a dangerous manner, leading to the death of three persons, on Wednesday, appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ in Court in Ogun.
Sadiq whose address was not provided at the time of filing this report was arraigned on a two-count charge of reckless driving and manslaughter.
The Prosecutor, G.O Adebayo, told the court that defendant committed offences on December 22, 2019 at about 4 pm at the ipoki area, Ota.
Adebayo said that the defendant drove a Toyota Camry car, with registration number BDG 337EF recklessly, thus resulting in the death of Ajibogunsoro Sule, 45, Alabi Iyabo, 45, and Rashidat Muftau, 10, Adebayo also said that the defendant caused damages to a Bajaj Motorcycle with registration no AKD 844 QJ valued at N230,000 in the process of driving dangerous and reckless on the road.
She said that the offences contravened Sections 6(1) and 17 of the Federal Highway Act, Cap. 135, revised Laws of the Federation, 2006. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr O.L Oke, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Oke directed that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, be gainfully employed and evidence of tax payment to the Ogun government.
He adjourned the case till December 3, 2020, for further hearing.
